There are moments when I’m proud to be a part of my local church body. No, it’s not because of the unconditional love I share with everyone I encounter in the aisles and passageways. Within these four walls I’ve felt judged and misjudged often. Still, God is continually working on me. I’ve joined a few auxiliary ministries of late, and that has radically changed my perspective. Now, instead of simply showing up to church to be fed, I’m becoming a part of the feeding process. Life is so much richer on this side! I’ve met truly amazing people in the last few months, and my only regret is not taking this step sooner. I digress, as usual…
Today was Sneaker Sunday at my church. We congregants were encouraged to dress down and bring a pair of sneakers to donate to youth in need. Now, I wear jeans every Sunday unapologetically. The revelation that God loves me unabashedly whether in a tie or a hoodie was a revelation for me some years ago, and I’ve latched onto it with a firm grip. Still, it was amazing to see so many of my elder brothers and sisters smilingly embracing this initiative. The sermon was one of the best I’ve heard of late, and at it’s close we prayed over the shoes that were being collected.
Check out some shots I took of the shoes below, and if you’re the praying type– agree with us that every sole that’s clad will lead to a soul meeting Christ.
Last month, I had the great chance to work the individuals behind First Book as they commemorated Dr. Seuss’ birthday by reading to youth in a local school. First Book‘s mission involves providing books to children in need who otherwise couldn’t afford them.
Throughout our time together, I was struck by how genuine Ms. Zimmer, Mr. Arnold, and Ms. Robinson were. Each one was thrilled at the opportunity to interact with young people- it was palpable. To see their faces light up as they read to the children in their various classrooms was beautiful.

I love weddings, and this one was one of my favorites! This couple is sure to remember this day the rest of their lives. I’m so honored to have been a part of this stage of their process. Anecdotes, laughter, and tears abounded as person after person testified to this amazing union of two hearts. I know God smiled on you two today
Narlie and Rubin, I wish you all the best! I can’t wait for you to see the rest of the images!
Summer 2006 was one of the best summers of my life. It was my first summer away from home. I got my first tattoo, met friends that would prove true for years to come, and solidified my title as Monopoly champion amongst my circle. It was the summer of my first trip to Los Angeles, my first college internship, and so much more. That summer’s soundtrack included Res’ How I Do, KT Tunstall’s Eye to The Telescope, and Alice Smith’s For Lovers, Dreamers, and Me.
Nearly six years later, a dream that was born that summer came true.
Tonight, I saw Alice Smith in concert.
And it was mind-blowing.
I cannot wrangle words to adequately explain how I feel in this moment. I’m overwhelmed by the fact that God has brought yet another one of my greatest desires to pass. This thing that seems trivial in the grand scheme of things is still, somehow, important to Him because it is important to me. I’m floored and grateful.
